Sahih Muslim Book 20, Hadith Number 4730.

Chapter : Undesirability of returning to one’s family at night (after a long absence from home).

It has been narrated (through a different chain of transmitted) on the authority of Jabir who said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) forbade that a man should come to his family like (an unexpected) night visitor doubting their fidelity and spying into their lapses.
